UNI DEFEATS ARDOI IN AINHOA’S RETURN

Uni Girona did their job and defeated Osés Construcción Ardoi at Fontajau. The Girona team dominated most of the game thanks to Mack’s defensive presence and the scoring contributions of Lundquist and Bibby. However, the biggest highlight of the match was the debut of Tate and Mack and, above all, the return of Ainhoa López. Additionally, every player on the team managed to score, and Spar Girona defeated Ardoi 86-62.

Spar Girona started strong in the opening minutes, attacking the basket and securing a 4-0 lead thanks to plays from Touré and Klara. Gradually, Ardoi responded with a play from Senosiain, and although Hristova ended the scoring drought (6-2), two three-pointers from Rodríguez and Lahtinen put the Navarrese team ahead (6-8). Roberto’s instructions had an impact, and Natasha Mack made her presence felt on both ends of the court (10-8). Shortly after, a play from Hristova and free throws from Mack and Lundquist led to a 9-0 run, shifting the game’s momentum and forcing the visiting coach to call a timeout (15-8). Bibby extended the lead with a mid-range shot (17-8), but two consecutive plays by Wone closed the quarter (17-12).

With Tate scoring her first points in our jersey, a three-pointer from Sandra gave the team a 10-point lead (22-12). Rodríguez answered with a three-pointer, but Carol, left open, also punished from beyond the arc (25-15). Taking advantage of their momentum, Spar Girona extended their lead with Touré and Mack scoring inside and Bibby hitting from long range (32-15). Despite a timeout by the visitors, Mack used her physicality to dominate defensively and scored off an offensive rebound, earning an ovation as she was subbed out (34-15). Senosiain didn’t miss from three, but a triple from Touré and a play from Canella pushed Uni’s lead to 21 points. With a minute left before halftime, and following a timeout from Roberto, Spar Girona widened the gap with free throws from Canella, though Joris managed to cut it slightly at the buzzer (41-20).

After the break, Girona lost some offensive rhythm, and Ardoi took advantage with a 2-6 run (43-26). Uni’s first points of the half came from Bibby’s free throws and a 2+1 play by Klara after sprinting the full court (48-26), but Joris carried the offensive load for Ardoi, reducing the deficit (50-32). While Joris stepped up for the visitors, Bibby did the same for Spar, scoring twice in fast breaks (54-32). After a timeout by Ardoi, Senosiain and Lahtinen helped their team regain confidence, but solid performances from Hristova and Mack kept the difference intact (61-39).
