A great day of women’s basketball in Fontajau. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, in which Uni paid tribute to women who have been fundamental in the club’s history, the Girona team secured another victory in the LF Endesa. Cadí started strong, but a dominant second half from Sargatal’s team left the Urgellenques with no options, as they defeated Sedis 82-58.
The visitors had a strong start at Fontajau, setting the pace with a vertical style of play. Spar tried to respond and managed to score with Canella and Mack inside the paint, but their lack of accuracy from long distance put them at a disadvantage, allowing Sedis to pull away in the first seven minutes (4-13). Sargatal looked for solutions to spark his players, who responded with a 7-2 run (baskets by Bibby, Pierre, and Sandra, 11-15). Isaac countered with a timeout, and Coulibaly responded in the next play (11-17). However, Hristova ignited Fontajau with a three-pointer, and Uni capitalized on the final play of the quarter to cut the deficit to just one point with a shot by Carol (16-17).
Murekatete scored at the start of the second quarter, but Spar Girona not only maintained their high game pace but also stepped it up to complete the comeback, taking control with a 17-7 run, led by Touré, Hristova, Pierre, and Sandra (33-24). Isaac quickly reacted with instructions, and Spar struggled offensively, scoring only from the free-throw line. This allowed the Urgellenques to close the gap, bringing the game to 38-36.
The halftime adjustments paid off, and Spar Girona reasserted their dominance, thanks in part to Bibby’s sharp shooting, punishing Cadí with 13 points (52-39). The game then turned into a back-and-forth three-point contest, with Touré, Soler, and Ygueravide trading shots (59-42). In the next Uni possession, Touré attacked the rim, prompting Isaac to call a timeout (61-41). However, Klara’s and-one and a fast-break finish by Guerrero sealed the quarter (64-42).
In the final quarter, Ridard kept Sedis in the game, answering shots from Guerrero and Sandra (69-49). However, Hristova broke the rhythm with a three-pointer, while Pierre-Louis dominated inside the paint (74-49). Fontajau erupted with Ainhoa’s three-pointer (77-50), and Spar Girona, with late minutes for Berta (who also scored), defeated Cadí La Seu 82-58.
