Coach Roberto Íñiguez analyzed Uni’s defeat against Baxi Ferrol in a tight 72-70 game. In his remarks to the media, Íñiguez highlighted the lack of energy in many moments of the game and pointed out that the team was not at its best level, especially in defense. “We lacked energy for many minutes. I don’t know if we didn’t have it or if we lacked mental energy, but we were soft. They put the ball where they wanted, and defensively, we weren’t the team we usually are,” the coach expressed.
“It’s hard to play when a team doesn’t get called for a single foul in 15 minutes. I guess they defended very well, I don’t know what happened. This is complicated, but it’s a huge advantage,” Roberto Íñiguez stated. Despite the loss, Íñiguez acknowledged the final effort of his players, highlighting an improvement in the last minutes that gave them a chance to dream of victory: “We had five minutes where the team got stronger, and we had opportunities with free throws, three-pointers… When it’s a coin toss, this can happen.”
However, the coach was not satisfied and remained self-critical: “Five minutes are not enough for us. My question is whether we can right now. Everything has an impact: playing on Thursday, having few players… We need to keep going, stay calm, and recover everyone.” Íñiguez also lamented the absence of Laia, who could not participate in the game as she had to stay at the hotel.
The coach is confident in the team’s ability to bounce back and face upcoming challenges with maximum intensity. Looking ahead to the next game against Gernika, Íñiguez was clear: “We need to get back on track, but first, we have to recover. We have to play against them knowing we’ll have a disadvantage. We need to bring more minutes of energy, passion, and hard work. Let’s see if we’re in better shape for that game.”
