Spar goes strong in Fontajau and extends its streak

Spar Girona continues to enjoy a good run in the LF Endesa and this afternoon they added their eleventh consecutive victory against IDK Euskotren (81-57). The Girona team dominated much of the match, partly thanks to the work of Pierre-Louis on both sides of the court (14 points). With this victory, Uni remains in first place in the league, and Fontajau continues to be a stronghold.

From more to less
Great start from Spar Girona, who, through Bibby and Ygueravide, quickly got into the match (21-12). That said, with the maximum difference in the match, IDK’s dominance of the offensive rebound allowed the Basque team to get closer to the score (21-15). Roberto’s timeout sought a reaction, which came with a good entry from Jakubcova (23-17), but Pendande’s final points put Euskotren only 2 points behind (23-21).

On the offensive
Guerrero’s triple at the start of the second half ignited Fontajau, but the Basque team’s offensive dynamic continued, and Buch put IDK ahead at the halfway point of the fourth (29-31). Íñiguez stopped the clash, and Spar’s reaction was not long in coming, with Bibby dominating the long distance and Pierre-Louis prevailing in the zone (38-33). Muguruza’s break did not slow down the Girona team’s offensive, and Caldwell and Pierre, from the personal line, together with a last-gasp action by Bibby, put the score at +10 (44-34).

A coup of authority
The change in the locker room did not change the mentality of Uni, who, with Pierre dominating the inside game, pulled away (12 points, 51-38). Then, a three-pointer by Sandra and a recovery by Maya put the score at +19 (59-40). After Muguruza’s timeout, Claessens scored at will, and IDK staged a small reaction to close the quarter with 63-48 (final basket by Buch).

With tired legs, both teams lowered their offensive intensity, only achieving a 4-3 lead with 5:42 left. With Roberto’s timeout, Uni improved and a final three-pointer by Berta closed the match (81-57).
