SCORING FESTIVAL AGAINST CELTA

One of the most convincing victories in Fontajau! Spar Girona gave Celta no chance from the start, thanks to the team’s cohesive play and the success of all the Uni players. With a brilliant offensive performance, they surpassed the 100-point barrier to win with a final score of 108 to 59.

Spar Girona set the pace of the match from the start, achieving a 10-2 lead in the first minutes of play thanks to the contributions of Pierre-Louis, Bibby, Touré and Lundquist. With the visiting timeout, Celta improved their effectiveness in front of the basket, but the Girona team continued to score thanks to their cohesive play (9 points from Bibby, 21-12). Despite the difference in the score, the Galicians’ insistence paid off, and with a 2-7 lead (baskets by Gutiérrez, Samson and Haidara), Celta came close to the score (23-19). Roberto Íñiguez’s timeout had the desired effect, and two consecutive baskets by Hristova once again extended Uni’s advantage (27-19).

Maximum success
Spar Girona maintained an excellent offensive dynamic throughout the second quarter, increasing the pace thanks to success from long distance (8/14 in three-pointers) and opening a clear difference in the score (54-31). Among the highlights, it is worth mentioning the two three-pointers by Migna Touré (10 points) and the 12 total points by Bibby.

Festival of threes
In the second half —and without Roberto Íñiguez on the bench due to expulsion after a double technical—, Spar Girona maintained the intensity from long distance, extending the advantage with outstanding actions such as a three-pointer by Touré, another by Klara, a 2+1 by Pierre-Louis and another three-pointer by Bibby (70-38). Celta tried to stop the high scoring of the Girona team through personal fouls, but the bonus ended up conditioning the visitors, allowing free throws converted by Pierre-Louis, Jakubcova, Caldwell and, again, Jakubcova (78-40). Immediately afterwards, Ivana Jakubcova herself scored a layup to establish the +40 (80-40). Despite the visiting timeout, Jakubcova continued to punish with two consecutive three-pointers (86-47).

With a wide difference in the score, Aina Cargol and Berta Ribas had minutes in the last quarter to continue gaining experience. A three-pointer by Caldwell and baskets by Pierre-Louis and Berta Ribas led to a 7-0 run (93-51). After the visiting timeout, Aina Cargol joined the offensive party of Spar Girona (96-53), and the Girona team ended up winning with a resounding 108 to 59.
