As part of the International Women’s Day celebration, the CaixaBank Auditorium in Girona hosted a special meeting between Uni Girona players Laia Palau and Ainhoa López and users of social organizations such as Oncolliga and the Grup Iris of Figueres, as well as CaixaBank clients and employees. The event was moderated by Rosó Feliu.
Attendees had the opportunity to get to know two leading figures in women’s basketball, share experiences, and discuss the importance of sports as a tool for personal growth and social cohesion. The meeting highlighted the role of women in sports and society, during a month of special significance for women.
During the event, Laia Palau and Ainhoa López shared their experiences as elite athletes, addressing topics such as teamwork, emotional management, effort, and the significance of sports in both personal and collective development. Attendees had the chance to interact with them in a warm and relaxed atmosphere, reaffirming CaixaBank’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment through sports.
Through initiatives like this, CaixaBank and Uni Girona, a club sponsored by the financial institution, continue to work together to bring women’s sports closer to society and emphasize its importance as a driver of change and inspiration.
CaixaBank’s commitment to women in sports
CaixaBank is a pioneer in supporting women in sports and promoting women’s sports as elite competitions. Currently, it has around one hundred strategic agreements focused on promoting equality and increasing the visibility of women in sports, advocating for elite women’s sports, and raising awareness about the importance of diversity and equality in businesses and society.
A clear example of this is basketball. For over 13 years, CaixaBank has been a sponsoring partner of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) and the official sponsor of the Spanish national team, both female and male, across all categories. It is also the main sponsor of the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Physical Disabilities, with the goal of promoting wheelchair basketball.
Through its partnership with teams, CaixaBank fosters the development of clubs and encourages the practice and promotion of basketball at training levels and basketball schools. These agreements support participation in official competitions, as well as the organization of training camps, scholarships for young athletes, and coach development programs.
Wengage: CaixaBank’s commitment to equality
CaixaBank runs the Wengage diversity program, a cross-sector project developed by employees from all areas of the company, based on meritocracy and the promotion of equal opportunities. Wengage includes internal measures to engage and raise awareness among all employees about the value of diversity, encourage flexibility and work-life balance, and strengthen the role of women.
Externally, Wengage also develops initiatives for clients and society, focusing on promoting diversity in four key areas: leadership and entrepreneurship, innovation and education, sports, and rural development.
