Uni closes the regular season with a hard-fought win in Murcia

Spar Girona wrapped up the regular season with a hard-fought victory on the road against Hozono Global Jairis (71-76), in a thrilling and closely contested match right up to the final seconds. With this win, the Girona side ends the league on a high note and now turns its focus to the next challenge: the playoff quarterfinals against BAXI Ferrol.

It felt like a chess match, with both teams replicating each other’s every move. The opening stretch of the game was marked by balance, accuracy, and instant replies to every basket, as both sides were tied at 9 after five minutes. As the quarter progressed, scoring slowed down, but Klara and Bibby managed to give Spar Girona a slight edge (9-13). That lead didn’t last long, as Frida Eldebrink’s three-pointer brought Jairis back within reach (15-16). Canella gave Girona some breathing room, but Ginzo and Gray replied to tie the score again (18-18).

Early in the second quarter, Vi scored in the paint, but Jairis shifted the momentum with a three from Holesinska and free throws by Ginzo (23-20). However, the home joy was short-lived: Mack scored under the basket, and then Tate and Bibby nailed back-to-back threes (23-28). Canut’s timeout didn’t stop Girona’s run—Bobi added from the free-throw line, and Mack pushed the lead to the game’s highest margin so far (23-32). Frida Eldebrink and Aina brought the hosts closer again, but Sandra’s basket kept the gap alive (27-34). Bertsch made free throws, but Carol responded quickly (29-36). After Massey’s bucket, Roberto Íñiguez called timeout with 43 seconds left in the half (31-36). His instructions paid off: Carol hit a key triple (31-39), although Massey scored again to close the first half (33-39).

In the third, Frida kept pushing for Jairis, but Spar raised the pace with a spectacular performance from Tate, who caused damage from all over the court (14 points, 45-55). As the quarter wore on, both teams struggled offensively. Jairis called timeout with three minutes to go. The scoring drought continued, but Pierre-Louis added one from the line (45-56), and Carol scored a midrange jumper (45-58). A zone defense and Pierre-Louis’s ejection gave Jairis a second wind—they quickly pulled within single digits (51-58).

The fourth quarter began just like the third ended: Gray scored inside (53-58). Ainhoa broke the Uni’s drought from the line, but Ginzo responded to bring Jairis within four (55-59). Girona’s scoring slowed again, and Frida hit from midrange (57-59). Íñiguez called timeout, and Klara found Tate to stop the drought (57-61). Ayuso pulled the hosts back again, but Lundquist answered with an and-one (59-64). Jairis stayed alive through free throws, and despite strong plays by Mack and Bibby, Bertsch cut the deficit to just three (65-68).

With just over a minute left, Ygueravide was hit with a technical, but Jairis missed their chances from the line. Mack punished inside (65-70), and after a timeout, Canella and Klara extended the lead again (65-72). Still fighting, Bertsch nailed two quick triples to bring it to 71-74 with 19 seconds to go. Íñiguez stopped the game again, and Klara made one of two from the line (71-75). Jairis rushed a three but missed, and Klara sealed the deal with one last free throw (71-76).
