MAYA CALDWELL NO LONGER PART OF UNI GIRONA

Spar Girona and player Maya Caldwell have reached an agreement to terminate the contract that bound them together.

Pere Puig, the club’s sporting director, commented on her departure: “Last Friday, Spar Girona and Maya Caldwell reached an agreement to terminate the contract that linked us. First of all, I want to clarify that the contract was valid until the end of the season, meaning until the last official game. There was no possibility of an early exit mid-season. A few weeks ago, the player expressed her intention to leave in order to attend the WNBA training camp with the franchise she had signed with. We reminded her that she had a contract and that we would be willing to release her at the end of February, giving us time to find a replacement. Our surprise came when Maya traveled to the United States, taking a few days off that she was entitled to, and from there, she informed us that she would not be returning.”

“For us, it was unexpected. After some negotiations and after she properly compensated the club, we reached an agreement to terminate the contract. We were clear that we did not want a player here against her will. We want players who are fully committed to what we are doing and to our project. Seeing that Maya did not want to stay until the end of the season, we made the decision to replace her with another player. We regret it because she has worked hard, and her performance in recent games has helped us. However, the club’s priority is to continue with players who are fully involved,” concluded Pere Puig.

Uni Girona wishes her the best of luck in her new professional chapter.
